Aneurysm Information

Health Alert

NEARLY 90% OF RUPTURED AORTIC ANEURYSMS ARE
FATAL.
ARE YOU CERTAIN A TIME BOMB IS NOT TICKING IN
YOU?

Have you had family members affected by aneurysms? If you answer yes, you enter the "at risk" group. The common risk factors for aortic and brain aneurysms are family history, hypertension, and smoking. Additional abdominal aortic aneurysm risk factors include atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), age over 60 and being of male gender.  Abdominal aortic aneurysm is the 13th leading cause of death in the United States and also the 3rd leading cause of sudden death for American men. Did you know that in most cases, aortic aneurysms create no symptoms until they rupture? Have I scared you? I meant to. If you, a loved one, or a friend fall into this category, action is necessary now because these statistics will increase as Baby Boomers reach their prime. Without change, aneurysms will also affect and kill large segments of future generations.

Aneurysm Outreach Inc., a non-profit organization, was formed to raise public awareness about the threat of aneurysms, especially the fact that certain families have a predisposition toward them, to stimulate and support genetic research and to establish a support network for those at risk and their families. AOI is dedicated to mobilizing people and resources to eradicate aneurysms.
