Thomas Menson

September 21, 1941 – October 25, 2007

I met Thomas “Tom” Menson when he attended our Gonzales, Louisiana, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA – pronounced Triple-A) free screening program in February 2003. Tom had miraculously survived AAA rupture eight years prior to that and was still a full-time smoker. An iliac aneurysm at rupture stage was discovered that day.

I called Dr. P. Michael Davis, a vascular surgeon who had helped Aneurysm Outreach Inc. to start its free AAA screening program in Baton Rouge and was serving on AOI’s board of directors. Dr. Davis assisted in securing Tom an appointment within three days of the screening event and Tom had surgery two days after the initial consultation.

Tom became AOI’s “poster child”, outstanding volunteer and eventually served on the Aneurysm Outreach Inc. board of directors.

Tom not only supported AOI faithfully, he became my personal friend. He will be sadly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
