Genetic variant called a SNP (pronouced “snip” and referring to a single nucleotide polymorphism) on chromosome 9p21 previously associated with an increased risk of heart attack is also associated with up to 70% increase in risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and intracranial aneurysm (IA).
